Rachel Cawthorn BBC Interview

Rachel’s Interview.

Rachel paddles with Jantex Beta Medium Ultra Light paddles, available from Race Pace.

LANI BELCHER – 5km European Champion

Congratulations Lani, the first ever 5km gold for GB. Lani says the Hungarian got away, but thought she had finished when there was still a lap to go! Lani (capable of counting to 5) paddled past her to finish the last lap on her own… Brilliant!

Let’s hope Tim can count to 5 and take the gold too, although he does have a history of finishing prematurely…!

Rachel Cawthorn takes another medal

After the perfect 1000m win yesterday Rachel has proved her worth again, this time in the Olympic discipline with a Bronze in the 500m. Rachel paddles with Jantex beta medium available from Race Pace.

Tim Brabants had a much better race today in the K1 500m final just missing out on a medal only 1.3 seconds down on the Hungarian winner.

The women’s K2 of Louisa Sawers and Jessica Walker had a disappointing result coming 9th, 5 seconds down on the Hungarian winners. This is unlike then and I can only assume something went wrong.

Our women’s K4 of Abigail Edmonds, Jenna Hawkey, Angela Hannah and Hayleigh Mason produced a fantastic result in the 500m final coming 5th, only 3.3 seconds down on the German winners. A brilliant result that will be doubt keep the crew together for the World Championships in August, particularly well done to Angela Hannah who has come up through the Talent ID system in the last 2 years.

Soon to race is Lani Belcher and Tim Brabants in the crazy 5km… Keep it locked to Race Pace for the results.

Men's K4 8th

Ben Farrell, Paul Wycherley, Stuart Hastings and Andrew Daniels came 8th in the A Final of the K4 1000m European Champs in Tresona Spain in a time of 2.57.56. Although the result was maybe not what they had hoped for they were only 3 seconds down on the German winners which is a fantastic time.

Congrats Rachel Cawthorn European 1000m Champion!

An amazing performance by Rachel has earned her the gold in the 1000m European champs, well done!

Tim had a disappointing result coming 8th in the K1 1000m final, and Jonny Boyton & Ed Rutherford coming 4th in the B final was also not as good as we had hoped, however there is still plenty of time before the Worlds.

GBR at European Sprint Champs day 1

Fridays racing has seen Tim Brabants make his way into the 1000m final after winning his Semi in a time of 3.32, he also won his 500m heat in 1.39 along with Anders Gustafsson (SWE) and Kasper Belibach (DEN), this should make for some very impressive finals over the weekend.

Rachel Cawthorn (Jantex Beta Medium) qualified straight to the 500m and 1000m finals skipping the Semi-finals all together.

Our men’s K4 of Ben Farrell (Jantex Alpha Medium+), Paul Wycherley, Stuart Hastings (Jantex Beta Large) and Andy Daniels had a good semi final to just beat the Spanish crew to 3rd just behind the Italians and French taking them into the A final, the boys always have their best races in big international A finals such as their 7th at the Sprint Worlds 1000m final last year.

The men’s K2 of Jon Boyton (Jantex Beta Large) and Ed Rutherford had a disappointing 1000m semi-final only producing 6th taking the to the B final where I am sure they will get it together to take the win.

The women’s K2 of Louisa Sawers and Jessica Walker produced a 2nd in the their heat to take them straight through to the A final, fractionally behind the Hungarian Olympic Champions, lets hope they can pull it out the bag again for the final on the weekend.

Our women’s K4 of Abi Edmonds, Angela Hannah, Jenna Hawkey and Hayleigh Mason marginally missed direct qualification to the 500m final, but raced a fantastic Semi coming 3rd to make the A final.

Tomorrow morning will be all the 1000m A and B finals, and the start of the 200m racing, with World Cup Winners Jonnie Schofield and Liam Heath in K2 looking who should win the final on Sunday morning. Also looking for the medals will be Ed McKeever in the K1 200m racing tomorrow.

The legend Tim Brabants will be contesting the medals in the K1 500m final on sunday.

Some may have forgotten (including GBR staff…) that there is a very important and hotly race on Sunday evening – the 5km. Lani Belcher is out tactical racing specialist who will be creating all sorts of small wash – too fast trouble for the other competitors, she is on the up-and-up coming back from injury (that put her out of training for 6 weeks) and should have a brilliant race. Timmy B will be killing it in the Men’s 5km with his relentless pace, will anyone stay with him?

Keep it locked to get the results and news from the racing… Subscribe to the RSS feed to get the posts straight into your inbox.

Good luck everyone!
